Terence Crutcher Shooting

Postby bogart » Wed Apr 05, 6:25 pm

Did anyone else see this story on 60 minutes? It sparked a very interesting conversation in my household. I opined that he was high on Pcp, non compliant with the officer's commands and reached into the car window, justifying shots fired. My friend thought that his hands were up and the officer should have fired into his leg. I say he was doped up and a shot in the leg would have been ineffective. I would find her innocent based on the harassment she's already been through.

Yeah. He fucked up. Sad story.
He did practically everything he could to get shot by a cop.
Must have been pretty wasted or not thinking straight.
And they can't shoot to maim or even fire a weapon unless they actually fear for their life or someone else`s.
They would get the crap sued out of them otherwise.
She might have tased him, but in a few seconds time, who knows what could have happened.
I would be interested in what the other officers that were present had to say.
No one else felt it necessary to fire for some reason....

I think she shouldn't have shot. I think she is guilty.

Well, it's a real tragic story. Not just individually, but also as a social problem. Black men have been trained to not trust the system. Just like Rosa Parks refusing to get up, this madman drug addict reached into the car window. And whether he new he would get shot, he refused to capitulate. The officer in question should not have been dragged through the national media.

You're aware that in pretty much every civilised country in the world if a policeman shot someone for not doing as they were told, they'd end up in prison?

No, I'm not aware of that. Do police even have guns in Britain?

Only Armed Response Units. It's pretty rare for criminals to carry guns in the UK: the presence of a shotgun at a robbery can mean the difference between 12 months in open and life in a high-security prison.
