A New Zealand-born backer of a think tank advocating a hard Brexit has obtained an EU passport through Malta, it has been reported.

Christopher Chandler, founder of Legatum, which backs leaving the single market and the customs union, has become a citizen of the Mediterranean island.

Critics branded the move double standards as the passport would give him the right to live and work in any European country. A hard Brexit is expected to leave Britons without that same privilege.

Under Malta’s scheme, individuals can obtain Maltese passports in return for a €650,000 contribution to the national development fund and the purchase or lease of property, as well as well as investments of at least €150,000 in stocks and bonds. Family members can be added for an additional fee of €25,000 to €50,000 per person. The main applicant for the citizenship must have legal residence status in Malta for a minimum period of one year.

Really sticking it to the elites, this Brexit. People are paying hundreds of thousands of Euros for something we're throwing away.

apparently, not gonna happen ...

Well then it must be true.

So Brexit isn't happening anymore because May made a deal with the EU?

May has spent the last few months fighting her party to hammer out a settlement that the EU has already said they’re going to reject. No-one knows what the fuck is going to happen, but there are some extremely dodgy authoritarians salivating over the prospect of shoeting sterling and creaming the top of bribes for businesses to stay in what will be a non-EU very shortly.

Imo, Brexit should be implemented by Britain alone. England has all the power and all the playing cards. The fact you don't have your money in the EU is your saving grace and with it you should tell the EU how it's gonna be, on Britain's terms alone. Should they balk, just remind them who has military might and who doesn't.

I wouldn't mind seeing Britain take a few struggling European countries with it, which would hopefully be a pretext for a cascading effect, causing the dissolution of the entire EU.

No, I mean things like

Should the UK stay in the Customs Union?
Should the UK stay in the Single Market?
What should be done about the border between Northern Ireland and The Republic? How do you resolve that question without violating WTO rules, the Good Friday Agreement and reawakening violence and division in the British Isles?

Seems better suited over here, does it not? A debate on Channels what'll they think of next?

Imho, Britain should attempt to remain in the Customs Union, because Europe is on your doorstep. It would seem foolish to me not to extend the free trade to those countries, as you have been, but with the caveat that Britain would be allowed to negotiate for themselves any tariffs involving any third party countries not associated with the EU, since they'd no longer be a part of the EU and since that's what your Brexiteer politicians would most like to have under their own control, for obvious reasons.

As for Single Market y'all want out, so you've gotta leave the single market. That would seem to be the core issue over here, whether Britain could control the migration into her country, am i wrong in this assumption? However, if England so desires it's freedom from the EU it should so honor exiting Northern Ireland and giving it back to the country of Ireland, thereby creating the hard border, on your border and their's. Anyone wishing to leave N. Ireland for Britain, or visa versa, should be able to do so before having a Good Agreement to replace the good Friday agreement.
