Open Carry Firearms in Oklahoma

Postby Rudy » Fri Oct 19, 5:18 pm

In 2 weeks, the state of Oklahoma will join the growing number of states that have adopted the open carrying of sidearms in public.
I think I`m OK with that, but I don`t plan to do it personally.
I would prefer they were out of sight if I had my personal preferences.
It should really change the "vibe" in some situations in public I would think. Its going to take some getting used to actually.
Any experiences or thoughts about open carry?
It doesn`t seem to negatively effect the crime rate in states that have adopted it.

Virginia has had it for several years now and i've never tried to get a permit to participate. Dunno about there, but so few people here participate one never notices. I have a friend whose self employed in the services sector and regularly wears his gun on his hip, which according to him has yet to disturb a customer.

Virginia has a conceal permit, but it requires extra classroom time to obtain. They only recently started allowing concealed weapon permits to carry them into bars, which i'm not sure is a good idea.

It will make muggings drop dramatically, as perps pick other crimes that don't offer the same 'gamble'.

No time at all. You live in the mid west, not the wild west.

From what i've seen the argument can go either way, but imho i believe it helps reduce crime, but likely only in a small way. However, some citizens can feel more secure, in a land that will soon have drones zooming about.

% of the people i interact with daily have a conceal permit, also have an inkling of those that tote and don't

80's, do remember an ol'boy hitchhiking in tejas had his saddle at his feet, holster and shooter slung over his shoulder, heading for antonio, took him as far as hwy6 as i recall ... quite a lot of the pick-up boys had their long guns in the rack and the curtains pulled back

never had an issue with any of the above, do understand the non-concealed vib thing tho in the proper setting

As Alpha said above, Va has had this in effect for quite some time but I can't remember the last time I actually saw anyone carrying a handgun that wasn't LE. When I lived in a rural area, I saw lots of hunting rifles & shotguns in the backs of pickup trucks but that's about it.

I carry a wallet and keys. That is tiresome enough.

Do people really enjoy shlepping all this crap around all day?

I saw enough 'open carry' in Cambodia to know for sure that I never want to live in a place where anyone - police, government agents or private citizens - is allowed to carry firearms with absolutely no regulation at all.

North of the Boeung Kak lake, there's an entertainment area where people are regularly gunned down for failing to surrender the karaoke microphone. And don't get me started on The Heart Of Darkness...

Over here in Pittsburgh, if one gets up and merely takes the microphone to sing they get shot...

One only needs to hear the gravelly voice, of a coal mining steeler fan to realize it was just a mercy killing.

Does 'open carrying' mean wearing it in a holster round your waist like a cowboy?

Peace, Des.

how many guns are you allowed to wear at one time?
you could have one of those two gun holsters like in the films and you could strap little ones all over the place.

Why hold back. If one wants to accessorize using a western theme, consider bandoliers across both shoulders and fringed chaps....with or without pants on underneath

Matthew 7:6

“Do not give dogs what is holy, and do not throw your pearls before pigs, lest they trample them underfoot and turn to attack you."

Better watch your ass there Jerkypete, lol.

I could see it coming in handy at road rage incidents, or when you ask your boss for a raise ...

My ass is just fine but thank for showing an interest. Of course I wouldn't expect you to understand humor.

How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? Matthew 7:4

There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. But you--who are you to judge your neighbor? James 4:12

I wonder if James ever used this line, in front of a judge? I also hope he had the foresight to include another eight versus, for that particular chapter.
