Peace, Des.

Our government's are too well paid by these oligarchs, if you want true change it'll have to come from it's people, not their bought and paid for government.

Next time Chelsea play at Old Trafford, I'll take my garden secateurs and see if I can sneak up on Roman Abramovich!

Peace, Des.

Geez - they got great spin over here. Wish someone was doing something that would work in the alternative energy arena.

Nuclear is the only way out in the foreseeable future IMO, the lesser of two evils.

How is pumping hundreds, if not thousands of gallons, of radioactive waste water, daily into the pacific ocean the lesser of two evils?

We need a genius to come up with a cheap, clean and reliable source of renewable energy in the next few years, or we're gonna be well and truly fucked!

Japan was a rare case, most reactors have been chugging along without incident for years and technology only gets better. I'm not saying I'm a fan of nuclear just that it's the only realistic alternative to fossil fuels for the foreseeable future.

Japan might be a 'rare' case, but it's an ongoing problem, that nobody is addressing and nobody is even reporting about anymore, because the problem has become so dire. The cost of cleaning up after a plant has been decommissioned should deter any sane country from pursuing such a sad technology, in my opinion. I also believe that if amerika would put the same amount of money, that it pours into nuclear technology, into research of geo thermal technology, that it could replace nuclear in a matter of a few years. Only problem with this scenario is there's no profit from geo thermal, which doesn't work in the present government paradigm.

The only known way to avoid the harmful effects of a radioactive event is to flee the immediate area as quickly and as far away as possible.
Fukushima has already nearly destroyed the Japanese economy, along with countless thousands of lives with no clear plan of action or end in sight, other than let the Pacific Ocean deal with it.

This is not a viable option.

Chernobyl is still cooking the environment too.
As it will continue to do long after we are gone.

And no one has mentioned that these giant power conglomerates are heavily subsidized by the countries and people that host this insane notion that we can somehow build magnificent devices to control and bridle the awesome forces of the universe. Gleaming gadgets to suit our fanciful whims, when we can`t even seem to feed our own people or even do something as simple as finding our own asses with both hands.

In ours it comes to a little under 37 billion dollars. Do you think they'll give those minimum wage workers a raise?

so i met an international banker type who lived in Japan and relocated to NY.
He says people are scared shitless over there, but the Japanese try hard to show a good face. the government has totally given up and put the problem back in tepco's hands- the main folks working with tepco are US experts who were active during 3 mile island. They are old and they do NOT know what to do - or how to handle it.

yup - don'tchya think everyone should have a reactor in their backyard
or at least in their county?

That reminds me of a stunt we used to pull when we were kids!

If you lick the back of your hand, then rake a plastic comb across it really hard, then spin your arm round and round in a Pete Townsend stylee, little droplets of blood ooze out of your pores where you dragged the comb across it!

Peace, Des.

I've been swimming in the North Sea loads of times (I went for a dip at Whitby 3 weeks ago) and apart from the third arm growing out of the middle of my back it hasn't done me any harm at all!

Is the sea off the Californian coast cold? I always imagined it to be nice and warm like the Med!

Peace, Des.

It's nice and warm in Morecambe Bay!

Heysham nuclear power station discharges the water from its cooling system directly into the Irish Sea!

Peace, Des.
