Quiet
Jackie and I are sitting in the Katsu atm. Not a single tourist. It’s like a zombie apocalypse on the Albert Cuyp market. We’ve got plenty of weed to trade for goods so I’m feeling pretty good.

Well everywhere is closed isn't it? The Rijks, Anne Frankhuis, Hortus...And I imagine there would be little trouble getting a hotel room.
A terrible shame especially for such touristy places.
Keep well both of you.

We made a drive through town after the coffeeshop visit. There were actually more tourists then I expected. My guess is about 1/3 the usual. There were still a few groups with guides and I saw one bunch of red bikes. A confused looking group was milling around outside the Anne Frank museum. It was closed. Most businesses including hotels and restaurants are open. The Dutch take a pragmatic matter of fact approach. Life goes on.
Re: Quiet
If you can easily buy toilet paper you are ahead of alot of people in the US right now. I am still holding out for the hope that I can still travel to the Netherlands the end of April . I am just clear of the current ban on flights to Europe if things do not change. Peace to you and Jackie and enjoy the quiet while you can.

Well that lasted almost 24 hours. The good mayor has decided to allow coffeeshops to open for carry out only business.

Re: Quiet
Last night at 8PM everyone came out on their balconies or into the streets and applauded, whistled, and yelled to offer thanks to the medical profession.
TUI is the holiday airline here and trying to get almost 30,000 people home.
All public transport is running at 50% normal capacity. The streets are very quiet. It seems people are taking heed. This morning everyone was 2 meters apart at the bakery. Made for a long and strange line. People are not very chatty either.
What’s it like in your stad?

Americans are waiting for the Government to release some of that free Govt. Cheese they've been stockpiling since the Reagan Administration. Tastes like a combination of Velveeta and American cheese and smacks of complete and total humiliation. Definitely worth standing in a long line for.
Re: Quiet
Quiet is nice. In Tulsa the mayor has closed all bars and restaurants.
Some are doing the takeout thing to keep the lights on, but everything seems to be grinding to a halt until the wolf passes. My wife has been told to stay home from her job in retail. We hear about a couple new " confirmed" local cases daily, but nothing catastrophic yet.
Lots of spooked people with lots of toilet paper and hand sanitizer.
I am working alone at my business for now. I still have a couple jobs in the works, so I am just pressing on.
Good luck and stay safe everyone!

out on the street, got my black n-95 mask to match my black outfit. it's 50/50 masked and unmasked that are out and about. BUT it appears the masked people feel like they have joined a cult and they all want to share the secret wave. The street bums all recognize me and yell their greetings, guess a mask doesn't really hide a person.
It's a beautiful day and the strangeness of it all is fascinating.

Here in Spain, we are confined at home since last saturday. Similar to the situation in the NL described by MHD, but more hardcore. We stay at home. You are just allowed to walk to the supermarket, pharmacy, and some very limited jobs.
Most people is taking it very seriously. I am still confused and getting used to this new situation. Strange times.

Re: Quiet
A few days ago the local Amsterdam TV station did an informal survey outside the Albert Hein grocery store on “hamsters”/TP hoarders. 84% of the people coming out of the store with excessive amounts of toilet paper were American or British expats. Some friends in Friesland where there are no expats said it’s business as usual and no hamstering.

Still quiet here. They just announced the cancellation of Gay Pride in August.
Lots of flowers going to waste. Hospitals are keeping up. Beautiful spring days. No rain for weeks now.
