Trip Report - Day 11

Postby thaioneon » Tue Sep 20, 5:27 am

Yet another beautiful day today! Off to our typical start with coffee, quick trip to the GH for a bag, wait for Mrs. Thai to get ready, and then off to lunch.

Over to t'Loosje on the Nieuwmarkt again for our club sandwiches and fine local beers. Such a great way to start the day. This is another one of those cafes that would be just impossible to recreate anywhere else. Just the perfect vibe and atmosphere as are many of our other haunts in the city.

We headed over to the Waterlooplein market and stopped at the Bluebird along the way. A bit crowded as usual but we were able to grab a spot upstairs next to their volcano. Know that we tried one of their kushes but can't remember which one. To be honest, this has never been one of my favorite coffeeshops but probably the best for this neighborhood for us.

We buzzed through the market which is definitely more compact than Cuypstraat. Found a few interesting things including some gifts for our kids.

Next stop was the Hermitage museum in the Plantage. They had an exhibit of the Spanish masters with a very cool soundtrack to accompany you as you browsed these incredible paintings. The music was synchronized with the exhibit and included some great Spanish music including one of my favorite flamenco guitarists Paco de Lucia. Just a very nice experience for us both.

Then a stop at the Onder de Ooievaar for a beer. They had the Ij Indejaar on tap which is Ij's winter beer and always a treat. Watched the world go by from the seat at the window for awhile and then headed back to the apartment to drop off our purchases from the day.

Another wonderful dinner at La Paella and then back to the apartment to chill. It seemed like we had just arrived but we were already here for 11 days with just 4 more to go.

amazing, ain't it?? No matter how long you are there - it is NEVER enough and just goes by too quickly!
