Re: Cesky Krumlov?
I have been there.
Very charming medieval town. Not much to see other than the castle and the town itself.
Things may have changed, (I went at least 5 years ago) but I dont recall much about things to do, and not much choice in restaurants.

Thanks man... that's pretty much what I've read. We will be in Prague for 3 days, then drive to Cesky Krumlov for a day on our way to Vienna and Budapest. It looks like a cool place to go for a day. Hopefully we will find some nice places to dine...

I've been there a few times, and found it lovely each time. You'll find more to explore there than can be covered in a day, which is better than the reverse. There's a good selection of places to go for grub. I have fond memories of http://www.cikanskajizba.cz

Thanks on the restaurant recommendation... we will check it out...
I'd like to have more than a day, but that's it on this go round... the castle with the bears sounds pretty cool... we have a place with a balcony overlooking the river, which is pretty scenic...

The castle is great, but I found the bears surroundings a bit medieval. Your place with the balcony sounds great... I have very fond memories sitting on a balcony outside a bar over the river, watching the water go by and soaking up pilsener.

I have several times as aunt Emily , ( really a distant cousin , lived in the village below the castle ) Its a Beautiful location with good Czech restaurants. I recommend Karlstjen as I always visit that area .

I can thoroughly recommend a visit to any of the Czech provincial towns. As soon as you leave Prague, the people become more friendly and helpful, the quality of food and drink rises and the prices fall.
Prague is beautiful, but it's not a patch on the rest of the country.

Thanks Hobie & Dazzler... as we will have a car at our disposal, I think Karlstejn it is. I visited Prague a few years ago, but she hasn't and really wants to see what she missed. With regards to the people, food & drink, and prices I've found that to be true everywhere I've traveled... the bigger cities have a certain hustle to them all. If you come here to the States, stop by Pittsburgh... I'll leave the door open for you... :)

There's a bit about the place here that might help
:-)
Re: Cesky Krumlov?
Well, the trip changed somewhat... we did the 3 days in Prague, seeing most of what we wanted to see and making a day at Karlstejn... great weather, great food, and the best company... instead of heading to Vienna, via Cesky KrumLov, we drove east to Krakow by way of Kutna Hora and the Ossuary... wonderful Czech Republic countryside (including what looked to be at 140 km and getting passed) decommissioned MiGs in hangars off runways... into Krakow for 3 days, flat out the best part of the trip... want to go back... then into Vienna for 2 nights, awesome drive through the Austrian countryside, the first of which to see Simply Red in concert... and the second for a long day of touring the city including Schonbrunn Palace... crazy opulent... would need some more time to get acquainted with Vienna, but doubt we will be back... Salzburg however is in the next planned Eastern european trip of Salzburg, Krakow, and Budapest a couple of years from now...
