Halloween III

Postby des » Fri Nov 07, 7:24 am

Day 3, and our last full day! It was drizzling again, which was a bummer, ‘cos we’d planned to go on a bike ride if it was fine! The houseboat has 8 of them death trap Dutch bikes (that don’t have brakes) chained up at the end of the jetty, and the owner told us to leave 6 Euros each in the honesty box if we wanted to use them!
Me and the Missus got our shit together early and tried to sly off to the Rijksmuseum on our own but my son got wind of what we were up to and blagged to come along!
The others decided to go to the Artis ‘cos two of them had never been to a zoo in their lives!
They tried to scope out a map on the internet but the owner had been bullshitting about the wi-fi working up on deck! The telly had relapsed back to the same 3 crappy channels we had on arrival too!
The 3 of us left the kids skinning up muchos doobies on the dining room table and walked it down to Centraal Station! We discovered a shortcut that took about half a mile off the journey, which was nice!
I asked a copper which tram to catch down to the Museumplein and after warning us to watch out for pickpockets he pointed to the No 5 stop, which luckily was right in front of us!
Outside the museum we found a quiet spot in the garden and caned a big fat spliff of the Super Moroccan hash I’d bought in Picasso’s the day before!
Now nicely toasted we went in and started our tour! We’d avoided going to the Rijks on our previous half a dozen visits due to the interminable refurb that had been going on for years! Now we were going to see the motherfucker in all its glory!
The place was strangely quiet! We’d read to expect a queue to get in, but the majority of the ticket sellers were sat there fingering themselves!
We started off closely examining every object but soon realised we’d be there all day if we didn’t speed it up! The place is absolutely fuckin’ amazing! I thought it would be all about the paintings, but some of the furniture on display is jaw droppingly beautiful! The militaria and model boat sections are stunning too!
Up on the top floor there was the expected large crowd gathered around the ‘Night Watch’, but me and my son were able to muscle our way to the front to have a good old nosey at it!
Outside, we took photos of each other ‘trapped’ in the cage created by the water fountain, then made our way down to Leidseplein for something to eat!
It was drizzling again, so we went in ‘Café Blinq’ and treated ourselves to a really nice steak dinner! Me and my son washed ours down with a couple of bottles of a tasty dark beer they sold while my missus stuck with her usual coffee!
I wanted to sit under the heated terrace at the ‘Bulldog Palace’ so I could smoke the rest of my hash in peace, but every pew was taken! We decided to walk down to ‘Rookies’ instead because I remembered they let you use tobacco products in their smoking area!
I scored a gram of ‘Temple Ball’ and a 2 gram deal of ‘Amnesia Haze’ and my son got the drinks in … 3 bottles of freezing cold ‘Green Iced Tea’, which had become a new favourite on this trip!
The place was quiet! Just a middle aged couple sat in the window seats and a guy in a suit working on his laptop while caning a big fat doobie! I built a joint using the TB by rolling it into a snake and placing it in the centre of the tobacco! My son built a spliff with some green he already had on him and we proceeded to get nicely toasted!
My Missus texted the kids to find out if they were enjoying the Zoo! They’d got lost and ended up in the ‘Bluebird’ coffeeshop instead! … WTF? They were now in the ‘Stones Café’ having some munch!
We arranged to meet up with them at some point then walked round to the ‘Jammin’ candy shop and bought huge cones of pick’n’mix for the grandkids!
By the time we’d walked it back up to ‘Dam Square’ the potheads had moved on to the ‘Kroon’ coffeeshop, so we went and met up with them there!
We all chipped in another 10 Euros and bought butty stuff and cream cakes from Albert Heijns and took them back to the boat for a feast! Corned beef and tomato butties are difficult to beat!
We spent our final night doing the ‘dream crawl’ … Picasso’s, Popeye’s, Dampkring II, Greenhouse Lounge and Barney’s! If anyone knows of a better set of shops in such close proximity to each other I’d like to hear about it?
At the end of the night we got take out pizzas from the Italian restaurant and took them back to the boat! I stayed up late with the kids that night, not wanting the magic to end, but when I fell asleep and started to snore they fucked me off to bed for ruining their party!
The next morning I had to rant and rage to get the kids out of bed! We were sat round the breakfast table having toasted currant bread and coffee when some cunt put their head through the hatch and asked in broken English what we were doing there! I backed him back down the gangplank to the rest of his chums waiting on the jetty and asked him what fuckin’ business it was of his?
They were 6 Frogs (3 birds and 3 guys) and they were adamant the owner had given them permission to come on board any time after 9am! (it was 9-15)
I knew this was bollocks ‘cos I had it in writing off the owner that we didn’t have to be off the boat till 11am! I told the garlic munchers to fuck off and come back later, but they squatted down on the jetty in a circle and proceeded to piss and moan about the situation!
As it happened, the kids were keen to get going anyway, so we showed some mercy and and let the foreign johnnies on board just after 10!
We went round to the ‘Greenhouse Lounge’ and made 6 monster spliffs using all the half bags of weed we’d accumulated over the 3 days we’d been there! We smoked 3 and took 3 with us!
We had to be at Schiphol for 2-30pm to check in and as some of the kids were nearly skint we went to the Maccy D’s near the DeKuil for a triple bacon burger dinner before reluctantly making our way over to Centraal Station to catch the train! I made the kids smoke the last of their weed near to where you get on the ‘Lovers’ tourist boats while me and the Missus sat on a window ledge outside the station and had a couple of fags!
Well that’s my story! … Pretty boring if you’re not into smoking weed! Maybe our next trip will be more eventful?

Peace, Des.

I don't think the green in Amsterdam is any weaker than it used to be? It's probably more to do with the British growers producing stuff that's just as strong!

The first time I smoked Amnesia Haze I nearly slid under the table! My kids smoke that shit now like it's the crappy home grown we used to get in the Seventies and the Eighties!

We hardly ever saw any weed at all in Northern England in the 1980s and 1990s; It was all hash, but very good hash. I think the first time I saw actual decent bud in the UK was around about 1996.

I always preferred hash though.

We used to get loads of weed in Preston in the 70s and 80s, but it was all Jamaican brick weed that was full of seeds, or crappy home grown that was more leaf than bud!

I miss decent hash though! The stuff you can buy in the coffeeshops are mere shadows of the products they purport to be!

I e-mailed the owner after we got back in the hope he'd offer us some sort of discount for our inconvenience if we booked with him again, but all we got was an apology!

Thankfully the manky pipe has gone, but the inane grin remains!

I used to make reports on all my trips, but I hadn't bothered for the last 4 or 5 times I'd been! Your and WC's efforts inspired me to start again!

Well I remember the K2 in 1998 from Den Haag and it was strong as fuck, then the White Widow in 2001/2 in Utrecht was even stronger to me. Last time I visited Holland was in 2009 and I was smoking Silver Haze as well as Amnesia. Admittedly it wasn't from Amsterdam but from La Paz in Zandvoort. It was nowhere near as strong or maybe it's just me?

I remember there was some fuss a couple of years ago regarding the THC content in some of the strains was getting too high!

Maybe the growers have toned it down a tad to keep the government off their backs?

We walked past a tiny little movie theatre on Haarlemmerdijk several times on this visit, and I noticed that it's even older than Tuschinski's!

Has anyone ever been to view a film there?

To be honest the amount of chemicals and science going into weed now frightens me. I got some weed off a lad here last week and, upon smoking it, totally freaked out.

I always prefer some simple home grown if available, nice and mellow.

that's also why I always prefered hash too which (although I prefer the taste) always seems more manageable i.e. you can actually function.

Incidentally, I see two more US States have passed MJ - Oregon and somewhere. Seems almost inevitable now that it will sweep the states. I think Florida marginally voted it down though, probably all the crumblies.

For a film buff like me, a night out at Tuschinski's followed by drinks and a nice meal is Heaven on Earth!

Is it ever nice and warm in Amsterdam?

lol…
sort of like me and pinball.
I am certain there are many that would think my pleasure of pinball in amsterdam is absurd.

I have walked into Tuschinski's - it is amazingly beautiful. I love that it has not been destroyed.

We once came across a coffeeshop that had that many pinball machines in it that we at first mistook it for a gaming arcade!

It was somewhere around the Paradox, but I'm fucked if I can remember what it was called!

Have you ever been there?

Blimey, you fell lucky there! We went in June once, and on a side trip to Zaandvoort I had to go in a shop and buy my Missus a fleece 'cos she was in the advanced stages of hypothermia!

Peace, Des.
