Day 13. Sunday
Wake to rain about 9
Needed milk
Stores not open until 10
To a new yorker that sounds terribly inconvenient
But I love that people's lives are more important than commerce
It's cold
Not like summer at all
Coldest August I think I ever experienced here.
Lol - the mate just reads to me that this is the coldest August since
the early 80's here in Amsterdam. I believe it. As much as I love the canals and want to take a boat out again..I am not inspired to. Being chilled and damp on a boat is not a desire. And well those tourist boats are just not even an option.
We Walk to bagel and bean haarlemerstraat
to get a bagel for the mate
It Rains
Walk back to the boat
More rain
Enjoyed some breakfast on the boat
We become Mesmerized and hypnotized
by the rain drops bouncing off of the canals
Really not wanting to do much
So we trek down the street for pinball
I sure love spirit being down the street
Wizard of oz machine is out of commission, I note
That the machine is #49 out of a limited edition of 1,000.
Came back to the boat. Westerstraat feels like home.
Ahh, but i know that is an illusion
Except, maybe,
Every place I am, I am home
Earth is my home
Just a citizen of the world
Oh sorry.
Anyway we get all the way to the boat with no rain
Closed the door
And
Buckets pour down from the sky
Love that app!
Do the web work
Mate confirms our return tickets and seats
The rain stops the sun shines
We take the dog and walk over to asoka to met up with Tak
Here's a question for everyone
In choosing a train would you pick the
Sprintertram or the sneltram
Google or any form of help not allowed : >
Plenty of laughs and good stories. Gawd, we all have so many stories!
Ahh by the way tak's dear sweet dog is named Noordje..
I think I was corrected on the spelling last year too.
Tak brings out some vegetarian balls he has from the store and says let's have some food. We had already brought wine. The mate looks over the available accruements and decides a run to AH is needed. He goes, returns and after 20 minutes in the kitchen a meal appears on the table. Damn he's good!
More conversation, laughter and rain. Lots of rain. The rain app works amazingly well, have I said that enough? There is a clear hour without rain, we grab it and walk back to the boat.
We drop the dog off and think it smells a little strange in the boat. It's a smell we can not quite place. Figured it must be stuffy and stale. We leave the dog and decide to play more pinball at spirit
We have stopped paying attention to who is winning -an absolute firstborn us. we are evenly matched and sometimes we are brilliant and sometimes we are shit.
Playing pinball, pipe in hand
In the background I hear Louis Armstrong singing
It's a wonderful world
It's corny, but it makes my heart swell with appreciation
love and gratitude
We finish the game
And have had enough
Mate wants to walk more
I want to go back to the boat.
We go to the boat, ( not that I'm the boss or anything, he was gonna walk me back and go out again himself)
We open the door and whoosh - the place smells of gas!
It is filled with gas!
Holy fuck
Open the windows and doors
We are slow to put the fans on, not wanting to create any sparks
Grab the dog get him outside
A burner on the stove was on with no flame!
We are so damn lucky that we came home!!
We could have gassed the dog or more expensively blown up the houseboat.
Now THAT would have been a mess!
I am grateful there were no shocking or explosive events this evening
I think it's time to go to sleep
