4/20 weekend in Denver

Postby worldcitizen1723 » Sun Apr 21, 5:29 am

Friday April 19th

After a whooping 4 hours of sleep, the alarm startled us awake. Blurry eyed and exhausted we prepared for the trip to the airport. I am a bit anxious, as my ear is blocked and I am praying I am not brought to my knees in pain. Bought those ear plugs that are supposed to help equalize the pressure in the ears. They Work! Never had such an easy trip - I will never travel without them, no matter the condition of my ears. If you are prone to ear issues when flying then try these!

Went directly to the hotel from the airport and even though we did not pay for an early check in, they checked us in to a great corner suite with a large balcony. Unloaded our stuff, played with the dog. (Of course he came). Took a cab and went to the 1pm T&T. When we entered the folks manning the door were really quite young, the mate made a comment about being old.. the door kid said, you are not old, you're an OG. ( original gangster). And so it has been, there are a lot of young people and they are all incredibly sweet to the old hippies. Walked in and looked around, not exactly certain what to do, looked to my right and there was Alpha. : > We then got to meet FBN, Hestia, Island Girl, her friend Stu from North Carolina, Slybear and Bear along with one of their local friends. As soon as we were introduced to the gang, pipes and joints were handed off with, speed and ease. People were openly handling large bags of weed with the most beautiful buds everywhere. Is this really American soil? Just as we were beginning to reach a nice mix of exhaustion and thc. In walked Mile High and the Delightful Green Goddess... What a treat. Sometimes when you meet a group of like minded people, you find one of those immediate kindred spirit connections and that's how it felt with the two of them.

There were people dabbing everywhere. You could take a bet, spin the wheel and "win" a dab. An amazing array of styles and ages. More individuality than you usually find in any gathering. Felt good. As promised Mile High had a welcome package of gorgeous buds waiting for us. The gang slowly scattered as stoners do. We bumped into MH and the Green Goddess on the street, they offered to drive us back to the hotel as they were also leaving. We got to ride in the infamous dank mobile and of course, danked it up a bit.

Came back and took the dog for a really long walk. We all needed that. It was almost 4:20 and there was another T&T. But we needed food. We had not eaten since some time before the sun rose almost 13 hours earlier. So we decided to eat. We were so tired and hungry, it was hard to choose where to go or what to do, so we ate in the hotel. Actually a very good restaurant. This place is filled with stoners. The smell in the elevators from the smoke wafting from the clothing is otherworldly.

Got back to the room, smoked and though we planned to go out, meet up with Alpha and FBN but, I curled up on the couch, allowed my eyelids to drop. And that was the end of the day for us.

April 20th

Was up at 6am. Back to sleep. Up at 7 and stayed up. ( I have another website, actually doing much better than my first attempt. It's Ifreesamples.com. But it needs about an hour or less of attention a day). So I was up figured I would just get the work done, well it was one of those mornings....the site crashed, everything was acting strangely and after 2 and 1/2 hours I finally got done what should have been 45 minutes tops.). By this time the mate was up, the dog was walked and breakfast was on the agenda. After eggs in the hotel restaurant ( no searching for a place to eat!) we decided to walk to hoodlab from the hotel just about 2 miles. Enjoyed the architecture of the old homes. The area around hoodlab is filled with lofts and warehouses, just beginning to perk up with little shops. It promises to develop into an interesting, perhaps eccentric and eclectic area. We sat and smoked. A couple of guys wandered by and asked where they could buy a joint, without missing a beat, the mate handed them a joint and told them to enjoy. We left and walked around the neighborhood, found a little shop that made us carrot, apple, beet and ginger juice. Omg my cells were screaming with joy. Went back to hoodlab - they are now charging $60.00 to enter (glad I bought those tickets on line for 11 bucks). Sat down to smoke some more. Hestia, IG and Stu walked in and joined us. We were having a nice time when one decided it was time for a cigarette, all three got up stating that they were leaving for a smoke. We tried to save their seats as the place was filling. I could see Hestia at the front outside. After quite awhile, I looked up, she was no longer there. I got up and went outside. Came back, Told the mate, they're gone, no where in sight. We sat there for a bit longer. We were stupefied, being left without a goodbye, defending three empty seats in a packed place.... Wondered what we said to have offended them?!? Just as we were pulling ourselves together to leave, a pipe is thrust in my face and I am told to smoke this! I look up and it's the 2 guys we gave the joint to earlier in the day. We were shocked to say the least. We smoked a bit , shared some laughs and then left.

We felt a bit on the outside, as all the action was at the cup and we did not have tickets. It was happening almost across the street, occupying a number of buildings and outdoor venues. Oh my gawd the hoards of people. The line curled around the block. We heard people waited for hours to get in and then once inside, it was soo crowded you could not move. Since line standing is not one of my talents, in hindsight, I am glad the tickets were sold out before we decided to come... Cause we would have just thrown away the money and given up.

Came back to the hotel, walked the dog and then walked to Civic Park for the Smoke Out. Definitely getting our walking in. The park was filled, over 80,000 people were there. What a colorful and diverse group. Every size, age and ethnic description. Really mellow and respectful crowd. Being bad with such things, we attempted to find the other channelites, but failed. Could have started calling and worked it to hook up, but decided to just find a plot of grass, sit down and soak it in.

Smoking and people watching. A girl walks by in a bright yellow hoody with horns on the hood ( which she had up and covering her hair). A boy with multi- colored hair started waving his yellow hoody at her (was the same one). She pulled down her hood to reveal multi-colored hair. Sweeet. There was what appeared to be a Native American Family group sitting next to us, puffing away on a variety of devices. One of the woman leaned over and gave us two bottles of some orange liquid in unmarked bottles - as we had arrived totally unprepared - no liquids, no munchies. We were overcome by the spontaneous generosity and by the overwhelmingly sweet orange liquid. Still very Gezellig.
The crowd was so gentle that I sat on the ground with my fingers outstretched behind me, and No one stepped on my fingers! : > The 4/20 smoke cloud was thick like the thickest smoke filled room you have ever been in - but we were outside! even walking thru such a dense crowd was simple, people ebbed and flowed and allowed all to move in their chosen directions - if this would have been NYC - there would have been a lot more elbows jabbed into one's body by random strangers as they shoved their way forward... Not so with this crowd. We left a little before 5pm. Once back at the hotel we found out that someone had pulled a gun at the gathering and shot two other people (not fatally).. Glad we avoided experiencing that part..

Also have heard that all activities in the park are cancelled for tomorrow. Sad. Really sad that he only news about the smoke ou will be about the shooter and shootings.....

Back to the hotel restaurant for dinner - a huge salad of fresh greens, nuts and grapes. Perfect. We decided to skip the 8pm T&T at club 64, it is actually in columbine about a 30 minute cab ride away. It's not Amsterdam. It is a big area, smoker friendly places really have to be sought out, not just dropped into... And a car would have made things easier... Hindsight the great teacher.

....now can someone figure out how to get these f@ckin guns out of the hands of idiots? Geez.

Lol got a pm from. OF... Seems Hestia and the gang had gone to meet up with him and come back to Hoodlab to join us, but we had left. Was nice to hear that we had not been unceremoniously dumped : >

Thank you WC for your excellent report. A joy to read while having the morning Java.....

While it's disappointing not to be in CO to enjoy the events with other Channelites, it's a real pleasure to be there via your trip reports.

Much appreciated...

It was an amazing day, the cup was packed and the lines were long. I was about tenth in line having gotten there three hours before the gate opening. I was there last year so I knew what to expect. If you put stoners in charge of something this big you know they are going to fuck it up. We made friends quickly and had a great time on line meeting people and taking turns holding our spots.
The cup itself was great even if it was packed, it's impossible to imagine all the different ways to produce and consume cannabis. It really is going to be an industry with lot's of creative people making lots of money. One of the best was the THC patch... just peel off the back and stick it on. You couldn't walk ten feet without being offered a dab.
The public smoking area was huge and still packed, the medical area was a joy because there were much less people. Weed Maps had a huge lounge with couches and all the toys.

The smoke-out was great... All those people together very mellow very happy, and then some asshole pulls out a fucking gun and wings two people. One guy changed an incredible peaceful experience to what is now being reported. Millions of $$ and goodwill have been flowing into Denver this week but the talking heads will remember the shooting.

OF thanks for filling in details about the cup. Sounds like it was quite grand! Don't think there was ever such a crowd in Amsterdam. It was huge!

Way more naked chicks then I have seen at any other cannabis event. That bunch is setup right next to us. What's up with that OF? They were at the park too I noticed. Did you see all of the weed being sold at the park? I was amazed it was so open and everywhere. We were on the stage most of the day so we could see a clear view of everything. We brought two 40 gram joints for the magic moment and got a good reaction. I was lucky enough to have a vendor pass so no cue at the Cup but I had to be there two hours early to finish the set up of the big Pagoda for Big Buddha Seed Co. Their goodie bag included a coffeecup so we had to unload 10,000 of those too.

It was really nice to meet WC and mate and see the rest of the channelites and ACDers. I expect to see some again today. I think I have only missed DM so far.

The second day at the park has been cancelled because of the shooting and the temperature will be 70+ today so I imagine the crowds will be over the top at the cannaval and HTCC. We will make a early attempt but won't last to long.

The show at Red Rocks last night was really good.

I doubt they'd employ a 16 year old bird at a cannabis promo?

It is weird, isn't it?

How can they jail you in some States for possession while it's legally on sale in others?

How does that work in cases where the Feds are involved?

Thats always been a difficult one. As far as I know, Federal law always trumps state law, when they choose to apply it, which they often dont. I imagine theres still quite a bit of risk involved in openly buying/ selling/ smoking weed. Pretty cool though, just never ever thought that Americans (or some States at least) would legalise/ decriminalise weed.

Youre probably correct, Des . 18 perhaps.
2013 and semi naked woman are still being used to ' promote' or sell ? Disappointing( but not entirely surprising) that dopeheads seemingly have the same apathy and denial of the worth of women as every other misogynist body that still thinks its 'ok' to use and exploit women's bodies .

Sunday April 21

Yeah it's weird. Also Absolutely amazing!

Btw we did not see the scantily clad girls - so they were not everywhere. But it is maddening that the mindset is still the same with women being objectified.

Denver has this really cool sense of individuality and entrepreneurial spirit. Something that seems unique to this area ( maybe they are elsewhere, but I have never seen it like here). Tiny food trucks. Teeny tiny little cabs pulled by cars. They sell REALLY high quality foods and snacks with limited and very specific menus. Impressive little business model - they add to the city and exude a pride of product with an air of independence.

If you haven't heard the lowdown about the shooting mishap. It was gang related and had nothing to do with the smoke out. Two gangs were taunting each other - one kid pulled a gun and shot into the ground... The bullets bounced back- a lady hit in the ankle, a man in the calf and a dog in the leg. All will be fine. it seems that all of the channelites had left before the bit of panic, no post traumatic stress in this group.

After another glitchy morning on the computer ( at least I was ready for it)
And breakfast we headed over to Hoodlab.

Honestly this part is absolutely true, but it sure felt like it was better suited to an imaginative novel or a movie scene... Sitting and smoking, a young woman appearing to be somewhere in her twenties, brushes by and asks if we have any papers. The mate pulls the papers from his pocket, conversation begins and soon her mate joins us. She announces that she is 3 months pregnant and marijuana is the only thing that keeps morning sickness at bay. She declares, I don't smoke that much, her mate says, yeah an ounce a day if left to her devices, not that much...and rolls his eyes.. They reveal that they are from Detroit. A city where the head prosecutor announced that the citizens were on there own, everything is legal. No more arrests. She talked about being stopped by cops while driving, she had a blunt in her mouth, a car full of people, open alcoholic beverages and even a bong going in the back seat. The cop stuck his head in the car and asked if there were any guns in the car? She said no. The cop said, do you know where you are going? You should have a gun ! He then Told them to be safe and drove off! Now that sound like walking thru the looking glass! Detroit has been a city destroyed by corporate greed, graft and corruption. Entire neighborhoods are abandoned, houses plowed under and now urban gardens and farms are appearing. When a house catches on fire, it is just allowed to burn down. They loved it there. : > They liked the free wheeling culture that was developing. They said they were going to the cup, but that they had their employees standing in line for them. We thought them very clever so the mate innocently asked what kind of business were they in?
There was a moment of silence, then he said he was a grower and dealer and the dear young thing- she was a Madame and that was one of her prostitutes waiting in line! After about an hour of smoking and chatting we parted. The Madame gave us Oreo cookies with a medicated center. Gonna save these for the plane.

The mate and I mused how we do seem to attract and meet some of the most interesting people : >

Since we have been at hoodlab for three days now, the staff and owners recognize us and welcome us with warm hugs. Did I mention how friendly the people in Denver are? Even the Ethiopian cab driver, only in Denver for 4 years, remarks on how incredibly friendly the city is especially after living in DC. He said people were so busy on the east coast that they do not even have the time to say hello. He's right, ya know.

Concentrates and dabs all around us.
It's time for a walk, fresh air, and to find that wonderful fresh carrot, apple, beet and ginger juice.
success
we wandered back to hoodlab, to hear tales of folks returning from the cup. Some hated it, thought it was soo crowded and not organized. ALSO - no free samples. or even paid samples with out a medical card. So all sorts of tempting goodies - but only for viewing for most of us! THAT would have made me very cranky especially after waiting in line for so very long. Oh well, guess everything worked out for the best.

It's around 1pm, we left a message for MH telling him where we were. knowing how extremely busy he was these few days, we did not really expect to cross paths with him before we left. As we were beginning to plot out our afternoon there, at the entrance of hoodlab appears Mile High and the Green Goddess! How fortuitous! They grab some chairs to sit down and join us. We then got to wile away the afternoon together; laughing, smoking and chatting. At 4:20 our little party broke up. What an absolutely perfect afternoon!

Caught a cab back to the hotel took the dog out and found the mate a fish taco, something he wanted since he first laid eyes on this funky taco place. It was good, he says. anyway, he's happy and his curiosity has been satisfied. Dropped the dog back at the room got another cab and went over to Frog Hollow West. For FBN's T&T. If we had sat down or even took our coats off, I think it would have been over. We could have easily become no show couch potatoes.

we did not succumb! Onward!

what fun to actually meet the people behind the Channels and Asoka handles!! : >
Hard to say more. Good folks, lots of laughs, stories and just easy going good times. So glad to have shown up!!

In attendance and in no particular order at FBN's T&T
Our gracious host who made it all possible FBN! Thanks for all you do!
Al - blissed out, relaxed and on a high that had it's own dimension.
Bo - actually brought his own California weed and extracts to share! Guess he didn't trust what he was gonna find!

- I digress- OMG for this entire trip, so many big beautiful buds with spectacular colors. Then the extracts..... Oils...... Things we never see. Candies, weird looking edibles... Truly mind blowing. Never thought I would live to see the day. I sure hope it can no longer be stopped!

Back to the party

Birdman - I will never again interpret or maybe misinterpret his stance and style in the same manner after meeting him. He is not the big dark brooding angry man that i expected. He is playful and funny. We have black clogs in common : >
Big Dan Haze -another good person. he quietly sat in the corner, smiled and enjoyed himself - like Big Dan in a Haze : >. he was mighty high... Or am I wrong and he was big bird? Someone will need to correct me.
Dannymac his mate and fried. Dannymac lol, since being on Channels I always wondered if this guys was crazy or what his story was. What would it be like to meet Jesus 2.3? Well, he is funny articulate and only as crazy as the rest of us! How cool to link real people to the forum personalities.
Hestia - we did not get to spend much time together, but none the less a warm connection was made. (The girls: Hestia, Bluebird, Islandgirl spent more time in the kitchen and on the porch together - I stayed more with the boys and the larger crowd)
Blueberry- yes the video blogging Amsterdam star was there we really only exchanged words as we were leaving. "I, said oh YOU are Blueberry! she responded, Oh and YOU are World citizen... We smiled, shook hands smiled some more and then we departed - as we were saying goodbyes and leaving.
Island girl and stu - IG spent most of her time with the girls and was laid back this evening. Stu has made himself very comfortable with the group of channelites.
And of course, Of and his mate. Again, not exactly what I imagined, but it is hard to conjure up exactly what to expect with the name OF... lol, even if he did call me a quack - they are really warm hearted good people. OF had also brought a supply of samples. So we all were firmly baked.

- OF had mentioned in a pm that he may be bringing his dog. It's a small one. So one afternoon while we were sitting at hoodlab, this gentleman walks by, carrying a small dog. Without missing a beat, I stand up, look him straight in the eye and asked, " are you Old Fart?".., as soon as the words tumbled out of my mouth, I realized what I had said... He did not know WHAT to say to me...lol..I tried to explain, in the end he thought it was quite funny. I was a bit embarrassed.

Ahhh, When we arrived at the t&t and was introduced to Bo - the first thing he said - was you're not that small! I guess they must have been describing me as smaller than they imagined - Bo took that as meaning I was short too. So I think he was imagining perhaps one of the "real" little people!

We all hung out for about 4 hours together. Really, it was worth the trip just to meet up with this crew of characters. And yes, we are all definitely characters! It was a real treat and pleasure to spend time with all of you!

Got back to the room to clean up, pack up and prepare for that 5am wake up call. Another night with about4 to 5 hours of sleep.

None of the women were underage and I didn't see a gun to any of their heads. Nobody was naked and you can see more skin in a Budweiser commercial.

Men are exploited for their bodies too by the way.

Sorry wc, I wish I posted it in the 420 thread and not here.

She's about 16 ffs.

I doubt they'd employ a 16 year old bird at a cannabis promo?

Peace, Des.

Please. These women are objectifying themselves. Consider that before you revert to exhaustingly exclaim that they are being exploited by misogynist chauvinist males. Feminism has won all the worthwhile battles in the western world.

If these girls want to dress skimpy and paint themselves its their own choice and clearly they have elected to do just that. I would baulk if my sister or other loved one did the same but thats a personal issue. Frankly, I like to look at these girls bits and their happy for the attention. Get over it and reconcile yourself to your developing prudishness.
