Palm Springs Mini Meet

Postby chichi123 » Fri Feb 15, 5:21 pm

Our much anticipated trip to a warmer climate was better than expected! First, I would like to thank everyone for the lovely birthday thread. And a big thanks that no one mentioned my actual age!!!!!!!!!!

After a change of gates and 2 hour wait we finally left 1 foot of snow. Packing was a treat. I was adament that I would not take a parka so with many layers and sweaters on we left. Did have boots up to my knees tho. Boney put a shovel in the trunk so we could shovel the car out of O'Hare upon return!

The Palm Springs airport is a hoot.........totally open air. Can you believe it? Boney rented a convertable that was such a joy for sightseeing. We had watched the weather before and after the trip. We hit great weather perfectly. Highs of 80 the whole time. The first time I saw a waiter perspiring I almost kissed him. So off to the hotel. Hotel was great with a pool and several hot tubs. Funny thing is first there was a religious retreat and the next bunch was elderhostels and I mean ELDER. Ate dinner at a Mexican restaurant that was fabulous and inexpensive. End of day one.

Next morning Moe and Bev called and came over for breakfast. First, we got a bit wrecked on Trainwreck. Bev and Moe went to Joshua Tree National Park and Boney and I went hunting antiques at consignment shops. Expensive and couldn't by a thing. Never saw so many Ferragamo shoes and St. John suits in my life. Why do rich women wear such tiny clothes and shoes?

That evening (my birthday) Bev and Moe came back to our hotel with swimming suits and into the hot tubs. A big thanks to them for making the effort to drive from L.A. to visit us! And thanks for babysitting us while we got snookered on tequila.

Oh, on the plane we happened to sit next to an old antique dealer from Palm springs and he was a wealth of info. More in a bit.....doorbell ringing.

Next morning Bev and Moe came for breakfast before they had to leave for home. Our hotel had a wonderful buffet that we all did a number on. Bev and Moe gave us the lowdown on Joshua Tree that evening before. Bev loves state parks and has been to every state except Alaska which is coming next. I already knew Moe so getting to know Bev was everything I expected. She is soft spoken and so nice to be around and Moe is a lovely guy. So Sunday off to Joshua Tree Natl. Park. You drive thru a forest of Joshua trees and end up on a 8,000 foot mountain. Then you walk up a steep hill and wa la! The view is of the Coachilla Valley which includes Palm Springs and neighboring towns. On a unpolluted day the view is all the way.........95 miles to Mexico. For a midwest girl I almost swooned and/or got emotional and teary. It was windy and cold compared to the desert.

There was a valley called "Lost Horse Valley". We had fun imagining a horse on a wilding amongst the Joshua trees and some poor guy trying to chase him down. Wondered if he ever caught the horse that went a missing? hehe

On the way to and home from the park we found low end antique stores. So I got to buy some cool and groovy things. The best was a marroon gaberdeen swing coat with fur trim from kneck to hem. A meer 40 bucks and oh yes I wore that sucker home and it will be for sale soon.

I gotta go to work for awhile later.

Next day we went up the San Jacinto mountain on a tram. It was Swiss made and the biggest in the world including it revolves. We were one of the first on and stood by the window. A little older women and her hubby stood next to me. The tram walls stay stationary while the floor moves slowly in a circle so you can view the entire valley and the mountain on the way up. Well, this dippy broad couldn't get a grip on it! What you do is stand firmly without holding on but no this woman kept trying to hold the rail and look at the same time. So her little red painted hands kept pushing in front of me. I suggested she hold on lower instead of the both high and low bars.

Well, she just could not do it and her little, clutchy hands and body were steadily trying to knock me over. She reminded me of one of those Garfield suction cats that people put on the inside of their car windows. Finally, I decided that instead of enjoying the ride I was just trying to avoid her so I announced "I can't deal with this" and backed up. If everyone had got out of the way this woman could have held on and dragged herself completely around several times. Guess, who we got next to on the way down?

Once again the view was astonishing. People brought children and sleds and cross country skis. Our ears were just a popping away. Of course we smoked a nice dooby on the way up and another on the way down in the car.

Back into town we go looking for a place for dinner and happen past the antique dealers gallery we met on the plane.
We had already been there 2 days before and there he was out front so we stopped to talk. He told us to go up the street a couple blocks to a good mexican restaurant. It was a one way street and Boney was trying to park on the left side. He was having trouble and told me to get out and help. After awhile he says are you gonna help and I said um the only way I can help is if you get out from behind the wheel. Four older men were watching from a sidewalk cafe and after he finally got it they gave him the thumbs up and we talked to them for a couple minutes. Boney started walking away and out my mouth came "I coulda parked faster in a full size van".

We go down to our restaurant and sit at the sidewalk too. After awhile here come the 4 men and get into a classy Jag and pull away. Suddenly, Boney lets out a hoot and says that it was the famous fishing guy Bill Dance. The Jag had a Tenn. license plate and he said I thought that looked like him and he's from tenn. That made Boneys. day!

More later........I am splitting this up like Patrick did with his trip report of which I liked. More later.

I once went to Palm springs. I went to the bathroom of the country club and used a whole jar of grease on my hair. Then I drank seven martinis and hit the casino. Lost thirty bucks but banged the cocktail waitress. Sleazy cocktail waitresses dig greased back hair.

The Palm Springs airport is the very nicest I have ever been stranded in cause Chicago would not accept flights. It is so small compared to Chicago and Boneys' old closest Atl. It was so easy and SMALL.

So we laid in thick, short and soft grass smoking cigs and drinking coffee and eating out of my bag and just rolling under a wonder of all wonders a palm tree! We immediately realized what a win win situation was. Three tanned, buff and nakid above the waist gay men laid close to the main walk.

When the flight arrived back in Chicago everybody had on suddenly winter clothes. The transformation was slick. Hours afor we were laying in the sun on those clothes feeling the wind on our arms.

continued later and almost done

Ha.........so the 3 gay guys are at the baggage claim and i go over and said, "You guys looked alot better with your shirts off in the grass!". They said people were walking by and going "tsk tsk". I said oh no you guys were a joy to behold!

So yes we had to dig our car out from the airport as usual. It was a wonderful 5 days and Moe and Bev made it a great mini-meet. We are a community of like souls and good friends where ever we meet.
