Day trip to Brussels

Would you folks recommend a day trip to Brussels?

Brussels is terrific, but if you have a car, I'd recommend Bruges. If you will use a train, I believe you have to take a second train out of Brussels to get to Bruges.

Would you say a day trip to Brussels beats out a tour of Rembrants plein? (ie rembrandt's house, jewish museum, resistance museum)

I would go to Belgium, but not for a day. The train ride is a bit too long for a day trip. Perfectly doable, but not enjoyable, imo.
If you have enough time, stay in Brussels for three nights and do side trips to Gent and Brugges from there.

If you have limited time, there are a lot of interesting places closer to Amsterdam, to visit on a day trip.
