Thanks for the info!

Type weed, or wax, or shatter, into the search box on Craigslist Denver. See what the black market offers.

I think the $18 must be if you purchase your spliffs from a crackhead.

They use a different business model because of the extra overhead expenses...

give one
pass one
share one

$10 for a lid.
You never knew exactly the weight of the lid. It was a sandwich baggie with (depending on the density of the herb) had 2, 3 or 4 fingers width of Mexican weed stuffed into it. A very arbitrary transaction with the dealers. I always thought I had an edge on buying because I have big fingers...

lol

we were always finding baggies of joints or pot in the park.

took my mom to the movies here in the city in '69 - people were randomly passing joints down the aisles..and of course smoking cigarettes (just not passing those)

I had no idea what a ' lid ' was until I read The Freak Brothers . I do recall an ounce of African being 30 quid . You were happy to give half away to strangers after a couple of nights toking that !

You didn't get that vibe in Colorado? I find it often.

no - it was different - but it was 2 years ago at the first 420 celebration, there were not even dispensaries for recreational smoke -- the shared smoke was with other channelites. probably the entire scene is evolving

I was there two years ago and I experienced a very sharing environment. Virtually everywhere I went people were smoking and sharing. The nightclub I went to was like nothing I've ever seen before, the air was thick with pot smoke.

lol

yeah, there was plenty of sharing and easy going smoking, i guess- but it felt like part of the 420 celebration and canabis cup- somewhat 'special'…instead of ordinary. I am certainly not saying it's not there - and i am certain I will get another taste of colorado…for longer than a weekend to experience the evolving scene

BUT probably the biggest difference -I am older…….

I learned yesterday Martha Stewart is into the cannabis scene. She bragged about being able to roll an excellent joint.

glad i read that

Postby sgcollins » Sun Feb 01, 11:32 pm

i'm glad i read bret's article in the cannabist! it kinda leaves me with mixed feelings though.

it is of course silly to suggest that overdoing it with weed is worse than overdoing it with alcohol. (unless you write for fox news or something, then it makes sense.)

and every non-weed-smoker i know in amsterdam agrees that making the coffeeshops disappear would be very bad news for the soul of the place. so it's not just cannabis users who object to the vertrutting.

but when bret says 'If you need to “escapeâ€￾ one of the most beautiful cultural cites in the world during the high season (and yes, that pun was intended), then you really don’t belong there at all' ... this makes it sound like amsterdam is only a place to go, not a place that people have been all along.

the invasion of amsterdam by young, nationalistic 'right-wing' valueholders is a problem for those of us who fell in love with the place as a hippy place, as i did in 1975. i would have to say it's wrong to accuse burgermeester van der laan of being the worst of that just because he's from leiden. remember, mayors in this country are not elected locally, they are appointed — and are almost never from the city they're sposed to lead. that's just dutch. van der laan, to his credit, was the one who said the 'weed pass' would be unenforceable in amsterdam, and balked against its ... its ... what's the english word for 'invoering'?

also, that aunty-invasion has a lot of other ramifications apart from soft drugs policy, like a general rise in condoned xeonophobia and anti-immigrant lawmaking. it's important, in my opinion, not to trivialize it by intimating that the impact is mainly on visitors.

what i think some locals object to is that some of *both* alcohol- and cannabis-seeking visitors do think of this purely as a party destination, and have less regard for it as a place where people are living and working. they sometimes feel disrespected by visitors who come here to piss on the city. whether it was alcohol, shrooms or hash that they can't handle, is a bit of a fine point for the casual local observer. the objection is that people come here and treat the place as if it were ibiza.

that does not mean everyone here objects to tourists specifically coming here in search of mood-altering license. far from it. i think everybody knows that the city needs these tourists — including the current mayor.

what we need to keep in mind, i think, is that amsterdam is more complicated than how i perceived it when i first fell in love at age 17 (i'm about to turn 57!) there are amsterdammers alive right now who can still remember that morning in march 1945 when the germans lined up about 30 innocent hostages and shot them with machine guns in cold blood, right there in the park on the weteringcircuit — in retaliation for some action by the resistance they had nothing to do with. those people also remember the rebuilding, the moral panic right after the war, the political disappointments when everything went back to 'normal', the era of existential poets hanging out at eijlders, and a lot of other stuff that preceded the hippy era when i first formed my impressions of the place.

my amsterdammers — the cool ones — are still the ones who want freedom for the people. they know, as i do, that amsterdam will rise again, because it always has. what they sometimes vainly wish for is that the visitors would have more empathy, more attention even, for the broader more complex spirit of this place. and of course that's a lot to ask, because people are busy.

anyhow thanks again for your thought provoking article bret!

love

Means a lot coming from you SG. My sweetheart was born in Mokum as was her mother, father, and grand parents. Her father is a retired Amsterdam police officer and talks a lot about being a cop there in the 70's I agree with you about visitors rarely discovering the real Amsterdam or grasping the cities History both distant and recent.

My only goal was to show a different opinion then the expat author that wrote about his experience there. He pissed me off so I let him have it the best I could.

Where can I buy weed in Colorado that has been grown outdoors and has got seeds in it?
