Re: Copenhagen May 2017
Great report...people told me Christiania was "dead". Doesn't sound so dead to me.

Re: Jamaica, Mon
Re: High Times - there must have been something in it for them to have it there or, I would hope that they were providing something for people who were struggling. From your brief description, it wouldn't seem so. The guy that sold me my stuff asked if he could have any of my lunch that I didn't fin...

Re: Jamaica, Mon
I have to say that although Jamaica was nice, I found an angle to it that is a bit depressing. Rich, white tourists have the nice beaches and service while the natives have been pushed off. They are disadvantaged and many live in poverty. At least we were on a beach run by natives that ran up agains...

Hello Again, Everybody! So this isn't about Amsterdam. You're going to have to wait until June for that when I take The Farmer for her first trip. If I know her, she'll be wanting to do three different things while we're on our way to one. But we had this day in Jamaica as a stop on our "Circle...

My very bad! I thought DeKuil was closed. I only did a cursory look down that street and didn't see the sign out when I was there. Never bothered to actually walk down there and give it a good look see. Went there many a time in the past. Sorry I missed it last time. It IS in the same place, right? ...

I came up the Ecole Militaire Metro stop and memories of my first trip to Paris came rushing back. I had stayed there before in '98 when France won the World Cup (we were there when they actually won it!). We stayed at the Duquesne Eiffel and I got the coffee and chocolate at a place called Shopi. F...

Paris to Amsterdam
I'm not one to hurry out the door when I'm traveling these days. I got up on Thursday, April 9 and went to their breakfast at the Albe St. Michel Hotel knowing they would charge me 13 euros. I could probably do just as well in the neighborhood but this was steps from my room. I made myself two soft ...

Amsterdam to Paris
I had done this twice before on Amsterdam trips, taken a side trip to Paris. What made this one different was the wonderful fact that Thalys train fares for me went down due to the fact that I became eligible for senior rates. That means if one books early enough, once can get a 69euro one way fare ...

I was originally booked into the Nes. I accidentally booked the Rho on Nes but never cancelled it. About a week before the trip, I checked my reservation and saw that the Nes cancelled my reservation without telling me. It was probably because my credit card got replaced because of fraud. This happe...

It's 11:45AM in Dam Square but a quarter to three in the morning where I am, my body still being on Euro time. I didn't sweat the upcoming journey home. I cashed in all my miles (and then some, argh!) on United to fly home first class so I got three free suitcases to check in. So that meant that I d...

This, from the Some-Things-Never-Change Department: I went to the Anne Frank House to visit the gift shop. As I was coming back, I was wending my way down Oude Liliestraat, a name I seemed to remember from bygone days. Sure enough, there was the Grey Area. And it was open. I got fixed up with some T...

@NYNY - getting old doesn't suck that badly. When I was younger I looked at what shit cost before I got it. Now I just get what I want and worry less about the price. In the end, it doesn't matter how old you are as long as you know what the fuck you're talking about. With age comes experience. Take...

I'm winding down here. I was packing this morning and wondering how I was going to get all the shit I accumulated into the suitcases I have. Was going to ride to the tulip fields today but got out too late again. So, since I didn't pick up any Waterman cartridges in Paris, I had a new mission and ba...

There's another factor about Amsterdam that occurs to me. This is my first real trip in 10 years. The last time was the 10th Anniversary when there were loads of people (us) who were there for a common purpose. But now, I feel like I stick out. I'm 60 now and a bit of an oddity. It looks to me like ...

It's kind of like NYC. You want quality, you have to pay for it. The view out of the new room is nice...of the rooftops looking south (I think). But I hated having to waste part of a day moving out and moving in to get it. They had 11 single rooms in this hotel and I offered to pay for something bet...

Weldon in Amsterdam
Well, this is the first real trip in 10 years. Last time was the big 10th anniversary. Then we were getting about $1.35 to the euro, now it's $1.10. Hope everybody had a nice Easter. I notice that there are a lot of bicycle taxis. Also that you can't smoke tobacco in the coffeehouses. Some have a sm...

Great reports, man. Amsterdam doesn't sound the same as before. I'm curious about Katsu, Grasshopper, Get Down To It (off Leideseplein). Dutch Flowers, Tweede Kamer, Dampkring? Haarlem sounds like the place to score if you don't want to go to the packed Amsterdam cafes. How was your hotel? All the b...

Boney and I stayed a half block from the train station at Hotel Nemo of which is right by Tivoli as well. It was very cheap and the breakfast was fabulous. We said a smoking room got there and it wasn't so I go back down ....he looks says there aren't any and reaches under the desk pulls an ashtray...

$125 with a shared bath? Seriously? Seriously; more like $133. Not cheap over there. If I went again, I'd go when it was warmer, so outside smoking would be tolerable. Or make a score in Christiania and then go about the country. The breakfasts at the hotels were great. Room in Vaxjo was $85 with a...

The good news is that apparently Christiania Is not going to go the way of real estate developers. Our hotel was expensive ($125+, shared bath) and a $5 bus ride away. I paid about double per gram that you did but was not disappointed. Too bad about the prices/quality in Amsterdam. Did you ever find...

Hey - Hope you're having a great time. Getting to be sunset right about now in Christiania. Where were you for it? :^) The most reasonable expense of my week in Scandinavia was the hasj. $20 bought over a gram of quality stuff. Unfortunately, I missed the free and easy feel of it as seen in previous...
