Lots and lots of family vacations at Lake of the Ozarks as a child, and some of the only time I spent with my paternal grandfather, fishing, swimming and sharing carefree summer vacations.

Then there's the party cove. 'Nuff said.

Thanks for the kind words all. I really enjoyed writing them and reliving my trip, as well as sharing them with all of you fine people, though I must admit I was a little selfish. I intentionally left out some parts, as I'm sure most do, just to keep a little something sacred and mine alone. My prec...

Uh huh-uh-huh huh-huh-huh...you said seamen. Nice report indeed, and I have to agree about that Nepalese hash at Barney's, it's a damn fine smoke. The only thing I hate about reading trip reports is how many more things it makes me want to jam into my own itinerary. Such a burden. :) One that I'll G...

Conclusion, and reflectilons. My thanks and blessings to those brave souls who made it through the whole thing... Saturday, February 28, 2004 A Sad (but hurried) Farewell Up at 9am for breakfast in the room, finished packing, had a smoke, a shower and I was down at the front desk by 11:15. Now any s...

Yes, actually I had almost forgotten about that. My little glass pipe. It managed to survive all week long rattling around in my bag, only to be crushed, unbeknownst to me, by the 3 metric tons of souvenirs I carried around Den Haag. :) Glad nobody got hurt. Damn I miss that little pipe. :( And ther...

Mixed Emotions - Part 7

Friday, February 27, 2004 Last full day in paradise… Woke up early, if not bright at 8:30 am showered and had breakfast and I was off to Pablow Picasso's before my train trip to Den Haag to visit the Escher museum. Went up to the dealer at Picasso's, who was quite chipper and friendly and asked for ...

Mixed Emotions - Part 6

Realized I hadn't finished the trip reports from my first trip, and probably should finish them before I have a new trip to write about. See, sick days can be productive...now if I didn't feel like such crap. Thursday, February 26, 2004 The Tides Turn Woke up on Thursday as determined as I had ever ...

Thanks for the kind words LH. I don't look at it as a tragedy, more like a cautionary tale. And in reference to your post in part 4, it was very much like acquiring a dependant, especially having to hold onto him by the coat to keep him out of traffic. But he's a good friend and my last smoking budd...

Not to worry, all was not lost...only 48 hours. The rest of my trip I was walking around in that otherworldly Mokum daze, not necessarily stoned, but beautiful...if you grok. Good times FAR outweighed the bad times, yet there were plenty of "bad" times to go around...hence the title... Yeah, Dogbrea...

Mixed Emotions - Part 5

Wednesday, February 25, 2004 The Changing of the Guard Slept until about 9am, and my friend seemed to be feeling a little better, but still not well enough to venture out. Made my way downstairs for some breakfast, brought back bread, cheese, fruit, cereal, juice. He was fine drinking juice, but as ...

Thanks for the replies and the kind words! This was definitely a hard report to write, just because it was a difficult experience to go through in the first place. Writing about it brings back such feelings of "I'm wasting my vacation...", but I've always been an open book (sometimes to my detriment...

Tuesday, February 24, 2004 Hellooooo Nurse! 12:05 am My friend was still in pretty rough shape, sweaty, dizzy, afraid to fall asleep because he was convinced he’d stop breathing, heartrate over 120…not at all well. So I went down to the lobby bar to get him a juice. Told the night desk guy Jeff what...
