Re: Brexit News

On balance, no. But the problems the respective countries are facing aren’t as different as you might think and in many cases have the same people hovering in the background.

Re: Brexit News

Boorish Johnson has come back from Brussels with a ‘new’ withdrawal agreement (which in reality is the same one with all the controversial stuff kicked down the road) and is going to put it in front of Parliament who are sitting on Saturday for the first time in 37 years. it’s unclear as to whether ...

Re: Boris Trump

Yes, you’re right, and it is complicated by the fact that England and Wales and Scotland have separate legal systems. The British constitution consists of a body of case law. The specific case before the Supreme Court arose because of an earlier judgement by the English and Welsh High Court that pro...

Re: Boris Trump

If you are defending this, you are on the wrong side of history. And yet your supreme court is defending this. They've thrown a wrench into Boris' thinking, haven't they? And without much precedence, either, keeping this whole affair quite complex. Almost edge of the seat type stuff, as long as it ...

So, for the hard-of-thinking and those who quite understandably find this whole saga complex and baffling and stopped paying attention weeks ago, this is what’s happened: Boris Johnson became Prime Minister after May’s resignation as a result of a leadership election in which only members of his par...

Re: Brexit News

I think I was in a bit of a bate when I wrote that. There's nothing wrong with Brexit humour at all and some of it is quite funny, but this sort of thing just serves to confuse people and distract them from its reality. There was no way this - or any other Tory - government would have handled this a...

Re: Trump's trade war with China

I don't consider them tariffs...they are TAXES on Americans. No, they aren't a tax on the consumer, they are a tax on the company doing business here. And it's time these companies pay taxes. They benefit from what our government provides them and these companies need some skin in the game. Thanks ...

For once I agree with the Channels dipstick. Keep taxing farmers and American consumers with "tariffs" and wander off into the realm of bad dreams come 2020! The farmers and consumers are going to get fucked and I love it. It's about time a president went toe to toe with China on trade. I...

When all the goddamn baby boomers drop dead then perhaps the young people will do better. I don't think it's that simple, sadly. The generations currently passing into working life are very much out of touch with the horrors of WWII in that they never met anyone who was actually there. I've known p...

I’d love to see it happen, but I don’t think there’s any political route to do so. Brexit has given fascists an opportunity to put a foot in the door and it’s going to be extremely difficult to push them out.

Either way, there's a deadlock that's not only politically explosive, but actually impossible to resolve without triggering a series of cascading constitutional crises. A public vote would at least give Parliament cover to do something.

Re: Brexit News

They're not conclusive at all - Farage's Brexit Party have mostly just snaffled all the votes that UKIP had and the Remain and Leave parties are about balanced - but they do seem to be causing the main parties to solidify their positions. Brexit really has broken the Labour and Conservative parties ...
